John Magness PhD, M.A., M.S.

Dr. Wes” Magness earned his doctoral degree from Concordia University of Chicago in Sports Leadership and Administration, Master of Science in Exercise Science, Master of Arts in Health and Wellness Coaching, Bachelor of Science in Sport Management and Associate of Applied Science in Professional Cooking a  is currently an Assistant Professor of Sport Management in the Department of Management and Marketing at Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Magness has also taught as an Adjunct Professor at Anne Arundel Community College, Baltimore City Community College, and the United States Sports Academy. Dr. Magness has over 40 years’ experience coaching, training, and mentoring youth athletes. Dr. Magness holds numerous certifications in strength and conditioning, health and wellness, and fitness. A member of (USAW) United States Weightlifting, (NASM) National Academy of Sports Medicine, (ACE) American Council on Exercise, (NSCA) National Strength and Conditioning Association, (ACSM) American College of Sports Medicine, and (NAYS) National Academy of Youth Sports. Dr. Magness, a Navy veteran who currently works with and volunteers to train Paralympic athletes through the Veterans Administration and non-profit work with various youth sports organizations. A dedicated student first and focused instructor, his instruction focuses on the practical application of theory, critical thinking, leading, and serving. He is committed to the holistic development of the student and student-athlete.
